I just finished reading Barbara Bond's third book, The Healing Island. I really, really enjoyed it. She just keeps getting better. It is a great story and I believe it would make a good movie. One of the things I like most about her island books is that I recognize, or am familiar with, many of the places described in the story. My husband and I vacation on Amelia Island, and just reading Ms. Bond's book makes me want to be back there. It really is a healing island - and it's a very appropriate title for this book. Her descriptions of the ocean, sunrises, birds, the weather, etc., are so good! It is like reading poetry at times. The story line is great . . . it was hard to put the book down. In my mind, that is the true test of a good book. I am ready for her next story!Product details

A just jilted photojournalist, thirty-something Katherine Sinclair, finds refuge amongst a ragtag team of women-of-a-certain age, whose wisdom and practicality shed a beacon of light on her seemingly bleak situation. Fans of Maeve Binchy and Sandra Dallas will likely adore these beach walkers (carried over from Bonds' previous novel, The Beach Walkers!) and the shared life-experiences, both good and bad, and their willingness to take Katherine under their well-feathered wings.
A beautifully complex story about a 30-something woman, who is not only jilted by her boyfriend, but left without anything on a beach in Northeast Florida. Bond writes a thoughtful and intriguing look at women helping women. Her descriptions of the natural setting of the barrier island, the sunrise, the birds are all breathtaking...I felt "healed" just reading them. The characters who come to this women's rescue are in Bond's earlier book, Beach Walkers. Wonderfully weathered and wisdom-filled Angels all. A must read if you are vacationing on any beach community.
The story was beautiful, tragic, and conflicted. It gave significance to the after fifty community, so often discounted in our culture. The descriptions of the sunrises were breathtaking . . . A real page turner!
